Ok, so, I don’t know what I’m doing, but at least I'm consistent, right?
Read along to find out how we received 100,000 views across social media platforms, got invited on 3 podcasts, and generated leads just in the last three weeks - all for under $140 dollars in editing fees plus many hours of being a student.
Embrace the SUCK.
Three weeks ago my wife Brittany and I decided we were going to find a creative way to help more agents and investors build more wealth. How so? By sharing content from conversations we have on a daily basis that we think would be interesting for others to hear and be a part of. Our goal: help others in real estate & investing.
After all, we live, breath, sleep, and own real estate. It's basically our life. We've built an amazing community around it. Why not share the gist of our conversations openly on social media? What could possibly go wrong?
First, we decided, if we are going to do it, then we are going to commit to doing content creation for a LONG-TIME, at least three years. In the meantime, we won’t care about the outcome, we just care about getting 1% better each day. Over the long-term, the goal is to become pros and have more impact.
The first day of recording content was miserable. It was like pulling teeth. Brittany didn't want to do the video, she felt she needed to get dressed up, do her makeup and hair. It took FOREVER. She finally did it though. Yet I can't really complain about her, I had my own insecurities.
I couldn’t decided whether or not to record the video content in the house (which is a mess - we have 2 kids under 3 - don't judge me) or somewhere else, but eventually I settled to go in the car and then drive to the park to see if it had better lighting. It didn't. The leaves from the trees created shadows that kept going over my face. So I got out of my car and went into the park and just started recording myself walking around (swing sets and all) to get content to put it out there on the internet. Wow - this my life now… videos in the park - why am I doing this again? I posted it. Whatever, content is content right? The goal is just to DO the thing. Crickets...
So the first week went by, yet each video slowly got better. Different angles, different lighting, better transitions, and then we decided to have an agent's son (thanks Tysei!) help us with the video captions for each video.
Boom! Views started picking up. Ok ok this is cool, we’re going to keep creating. Boom! Someone reaches out to ask a question. Alright, sweet, now I can add value to someone interested in real estate. Another hit - “Hey I liked your content, can you do a podcast? I had never heard you and your wife's story before!” What! This is someone who I follow to consume THEIR content and they invited me on THEIR podcast?
Two weeks go by as I keep posting daily. Another hit. An agent who wants to join our brokerage. Another podcast interview set up. Everything feels like it’s taking off. Internally, I'm still thinking the videos aren’t good, BUT we’re doing it consistently, it’s helping people, and it's slowly getting better.
So, you'll see more content out there from us. Just looking to help people win, build wealth, and live awesome lifestyles.
